CM stress on diversification in farm sector

Tuesday, 25 September 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

Stressing on diversification in the farm sector, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that this was the need of the present day and it would ensure better profits to farmers.

Yogi also advised farmers to take up vegetable growing, fruit production, horticulture, pisciculture and dairy development besides conventional farming.

The Chief Minister made this remark during a meeting with a delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB) at Shastri Bhawan here on Monday.

It was finalised that the ADB would make an exhaustive study on how to add value in mango growing, guava, potato and pulse farming and submit a report to the state government.

“This is a beneficial effort to enhance agricultural production. Experts in this field should be roped in for deliberations. This will also help the government in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream to double  farmers’ income by 2022,” the CM said.

Stressing on the need for assimilation of new and modern techniques, Yogi called for wider publicity of drip irrigation.

He suggested that through MNREGA, many works could be done to benefit small and medium farmers.

“Farmers are being benefited by PM Crop Insurance Scheme and PM Agriculture Irrigation Scheme. Soil health cards, depicting accurate nature of soil, are also benefiting farmers in a big way,” the CM claimed.

Yogi said the state government had ensured distribution of two crore soil health cards, the highest in the country.

On this occasion, ADB delegates gave a presentation to the Chief Minister on value chain in UP.
