After registering a landslide victory in the Assembly polls on Tuesday, a meeting of Congress legislative Party (CLP) was convened here at State Congress Office, Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday to elect its leader.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) Observer Mallikarjun Kharge and Chhattisgarh In-charge of AICC was especially present in the meeting to take the choices from the newly elected legislators of the party.
Kharge took opinion from the newly elected legislators about the leader to be elected. The legislators would once again meet on Thursday morning to take a final decision and after the consent and green signal from AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi the name is expected to be declared till late evening on Thursday.
Notably, the party had won more than two-thirds majority and succeeded in 68 of the assembly constituencies of the state out of total 90. Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Bhupesh Baghel, Senior Congress Leader T.S. Singhdeo, former Union Minister Charandas Mahant and party's National President OBC Wing, Tamradhwaj Sahu are said to be frontrunners for the Chief Ministerial post.
