The detailed project report (DPR) prepared to implement a new sewerage system in the silk city in collaboration with the German Government would be sent to the Central Government soon for approval, informed Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore.
Rathore said the project cost has been estimated at Rs 488 crore by a joint team of the Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB) and the German Government during the latter’s visit to the city a few months back.
Sources said more than 80, 000 houses in the city have no sewerage facility to release wastewater.
Hence, all household waters are discharged to the drains, which ultimately lead to waterlogging and artificial floods in nook and corner of the city.
It may be noted that though the proposal for the sewerage system in the city has been prepared many times, they have not yielded any result duel funds crunch.
