BJP will surpass past victories in local body polls: CM

On the final day of campaigning for the urban local body elections, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Bharatiya Janata Party State president Ajay Bhatt and other party leaders participated in a roadshow here to elicit support for the party’s mayoral candidate Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ and candidates for the posts of councillors on Friday.

The rally started from the BJP Mahanagar office adjoining the Parade Ground and passed through localities including Darshanlal Chowk, Paltan Bazaar, Dhamawala, Peepal Mandi and Darshini Gate.

Talking to the media persons on the occasion, the chief minister opined that only the BJP can ensure the desired development of local bodies. Stating that the BJP will win with more seats than in the past, Rawat said that after the BJP state government began its term in Uttarakhand, the budget for municipalities had been increased four-fold. Before formation of the BJP government, the budget for municipalities used to be minuscule but the BJP increased it substantially.

The chief minister further opined that the electoral atmosphere in the state is in support of the party.

With the people having full faith in the BJP government, this time the party will achieve a resounding victory also in the urban local body elections, he added.

The BJP state chief Ajay Bhatt said that the party would win the local body elections with a thumping majority.

The party candidate will win the election to the mayoral post by a margin of more than one lakh votes, he opined. Stating that the motto of the party for this election is ‘mission 80 plus’, he said that the BJP would win three-fourth of the seats in local bodies in this election.

The party’s mayoral candidate Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, MLAs Harbans Kapoor, Khajan Das, Ganesh Joshi, candidates for the posts of councillors and party office bearers were also among those present in the road show.
