Arms factory busted, gunrunner arrested

In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police have busted an illegal arms manufacturing factory from Karawal Nagar area in Northeast Delhi and arrested a 41-year-old gunrunner  who was involved in manufacturing and supply of country made arms to criminals in Delhi and its peripheral areas.

The accused had setup an illegal arms manufacturing unit in his house, sometimes back and it went undetected before Crime Branch swooped upon him.

Police have also recovered  arms manufacturing material, two semi-automatic pistols, three country made pistols along with 16 live cartridges and six spare magazines from his premises. Police team later arrested one receiver of these illegal arms after the accused divulged his name.

The accused has been identified as Iqbal a resident of Shakti Vihar at Karwal Nagar area and a native of Bulandshar in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

"On November 27, we had received a tipoff regarding the accused that he would be coming to supply carbine near Ram Prastha Crossing Bus stand, towards ISBT, Anand Vihar following which a trap was laid and accused was apprehended," said

Dr G Ram Gopal Naik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime Branch.

"During interrogation, the accused revealed that his father Bundu Khan was manufacturing illegal arms at his house and he learnt the technique from him. He started repairing of the arms of the criminals and gradually started manufacturing of the country made pistols. Weapons made by him were in demand as he was technically sound in manufacturing of weapons. Gradually, he started manufacturing semi-automatic pistols and carbines by obtaining raw material from local market and then assembling them at his house," said the DCP.

"Iqbal has supplied more than 25 carbines, 50 semi automatic pistols and more than 100 country made pistols to various criminals in Delhi and UP.

He was selling semiautomatic carbine for Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 Lakh, semi-automatic pistol for Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 and country made pistols were sold for Rs 5,000 each.

On his instance one receiver identified as Raj Kartik was also arrested," said the DCP adding that

Kartik was a member of a gang run by his distant relative Shakti Naidu, who along with his accomplices was arrested earlier in connection with a dacoity of Rs 8 crore near Moolchand flyover.
