The first meeting of House Committee formed by the State Assembly to probe into journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra’s anti-Odisha remarks will be held on Saturday. This was informed by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, who heads the committee, here on Friday. “The panel will make an inquiry as to whether the criticism by a non-Odia against the legislators over discussions in the Assembly is breach of privilege,” said Mishra, adding, “Whether it will be breach of privilege of the House; whether he had made such statement or it will be breach of privilege of the MLAs (will be considered),” he said.
The committee would submit its report to the House, which would take further course of action later, he added.
Speaker Pradeep Amat had on Thursday approved a proposal of forming the House Committee over Mitra’s derogatory remarks on the Konark Sun Temple, legislators, Odisha culture and Lord Jagannath.
The committee led by Narasingha Mishra has BJD’s Debi Prasad Mishra, Pramila Mallick, Arun Sahoo and Sanjay Dasburma and BJP Legislature Party Leader K V Singh Deo as its other members. The panel would submit its report in the Assembly on first day of its next session.
