15 dead, 24 missing in bus mishaps
Dehradun: As many as 15 people were killed and more than 24 went missing in bus accidents in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi and Tehri districts on Friday. The missing persons were feared to have drowned in Bhagirathi river. Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has directed the Uttarkashi and Tehri district magistrates to order inquiries into the two accidents. The first mishap occurred when a Badrinath-bound bus fell almost 100 feet into river Bhagirathi at Pala village, about three kms from Hatwari, around 7 am. Official sources said a total of 40 passengers, comprising mostly kawadia (pilgrims), were travelling on the bus.
Robbers loot Rs 1 crore from Sainik Farms home
New Delhi: The house of an automobile businessman was robbed of cash and jewellery worth at least Rs 1 crore in the posh Sainik Farms area of South Delhi on Friday. The robbery took place between 12 and 5 am on Friday but the family came to know about it only around 8 am.
Govt still cautious on same sex issue
New Delhi: The Government still appeared to be cautious in its approach on what to do with the controversial law relating to same gender sex with a meeting of three senior Ministers deciding to take an in-depth view on the issue, notwithstanding Delhi High Court order decriminalising the provision. Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday held a meeting with Law Minister M Veerappa Moily and Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, all of whom were mandated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to decide the Government’s stand on the issue at a time when the High Court judgement had not come.
