Orissa girl to meet G8 world leaders in Italy

PNS | Bhubaneswar

Sixteen-year-old girl Sanjukta Pangi from Orissa’s Koraput district, along with 17-year-old boy Samuel Venkatesan from Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu will represent India at the Junior 8 Summit in Rome from July 4 to 10 this year. This is the fifth year of the J8, which takes place parallel to the annual G8 Summit.

Sanjukta and Samuel for the J8 will enable them to join a group of 56 young people, who will work together on youth-oriented solutions for this year’s three main G8 topics — climate change, the world financial crisis and development. One of the Indian delegates will share his or her recommendations directly with G8 leaders in L'Aquila in Italy on July 9.

A representative from each of the delegations of the 14 countries will also have an opportunity to interact with his or her respective leader on the concerns identified by the J8 Summit. Besides India, the group also includes delegates from countries like Brazil, China, Egypt, Mexico and South Africa.
