Professor (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Bhopal, always emphasizes that we can truly fulfill our responsibilities only by going out of our campus, going among the people, taking care of their health and providing health related information.
For this purpose, a team of AIIMS Bhopal organized a counseling session on April 29 in a girls' school in Sehore. Total 458 girls were screened for sickle cell disease at a girls' school run by Surya Foundation under the PPP model in Sehore. After investigation, 2 girls were found to be suffering from sickle cell disease, while the gene for this disease was found in 62 girls.
On behalf of Surya Foundation, Professor (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal was requested for counseling of these girls and their parents.
In this connection, under the leadership of Dr. Sachin Bansal, a team from AIIMS Bhopal, in the premises of Girls School, counseled the girls who were found to have sickle cell disease or who had such genes and their parents also.
They were explained about this disease. Information was also given about preventing it from spreading to the coming generations. Girls who were suffering from sickle cell disease were also given necessary medicines by AIIMS Bhopal. Professor (Dr) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, assures that AIIMS Bhopal will always strive to provide better health facilities in remote areas and rural areas.
